The Celiac, IBS, and Crohn’s Array (CICA) evaluates your genetic risk for celiac disease, serum markers associated with active celiac disease process, and genetic serum markers associated with Crohn’s disease.

The CICA is designed to provide an accurate evaluation of GI tract function by gathering information from various pathways.

Optionally, it can be combined with the Alcat Test to evaluate innate immune cell responses to as many as 400 other foods (including gluten, gliadin, casein and whey) and substances for the most comprehensive assessment.

Connecting the dots on celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and Crohn's disease

Celiac disease risk analysis is determined by the presence or absence of the HLA-DQ genotypes. Both, DQ8 and DQ2.5 genotypes are tested in this array, with DQ2.5 representing a much greater risk of celiac disease.

Four specific serum antibodies (DGP IgG/IgA and tTG IgG/IgA) are tested due to their high sensitivity and specificity for active celiac disease. The higher the antibody levels, the more likely untreated celiac disease is present.

Genetic markers, mutations in the ATG16L1 and NOD2 genes, associated with the Crohn’s disease are tested along with serologic markers for complete assessment.

Anti-Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Antibody (ASCA; IgG/IgA) are immune proteins that are frequently present in people who have Crohn’s disease. The presence of ASCA may also reflect increased intestinal inflammation and permeability, including an association with active Crohn’s disease.

What's the Process?

You order the CICA Test.
Your kit is sent to you at your home via UPS or FedEx. It includes the following:
- Vials, tourniquet and alcohol swab, as applicable.
- Prepaid UPS or FedEx shipping pack with pickup service
- Requisition form
- Shipping collection and instructions
Phlebotomy service team will contact you (usually within 2-3 business days after your order) to make an appointment with you to get your blood drawn.
You send your kit to the Cell Science Systems lab in the prepaid UPS or FedEx mailer.
Your blood sample undergoes a comprehensive test array that analyzes genetic predisposition, detects specific antibodies, and measures potentially inflammatory cellular reactions.
You'll receive a detailed, yet user-friendly, lab report explaining your test results in depth with expert commentary (usually within 5-7 business days after the lab received your samples).

Note: For those without a current diagnosis of celiac disease or wheat allergy, who have been avoiding gluten, a consumption of gluten (≥ 1 ½ slices of wheat bread or equivalent daily) for a minimum of the first two weeks of the last four weeks, prior to testing, is recommended.
